The best maternal healthcare in the region.

“Being in charge of the Holy Family Hospital in Bethlehem is entirely different from heading any hospital in any other part of the world.

Located in the Holy Land and open to all, independently of their region, race or financial means, we continue to assure a Christian attendance in the town where the Virgin Mary gave birth to Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Our devotion has earned the respect of all communities in Palestine.

Due to our excellent reputation and our respect for other’s dignity and religion, our share of all deliveries in the district of Bethlehem has increased from 37.3% to 59.5% in the last two years.”

Dr. Jacques Keutgen
Director General

On Oct. 28, 2010, Holy Family Hospital reached a significant milestone with the birth of Aisha Radaydiah – the 50,000th baby born at the Birthplace of Hope since 1990.

Now seems the perfect time to rejoice on the hospital’s achievements and give thanks for the Sovereign Military Order of Malta’s devotion to the families in the Holy Land especially the poor and destitute.

  • Holy Family Hospital has gone from 1,000 births annually to over 3,000.
  • Its outpatient clinics have grown from 3,600 consultations, a year, to over 22,000.
  • The hospital built and maintains the only neonatal intensive care unit in the region – annually saving the lives of 400 premature and low-birth-weight infants.
  • Holy Family Hospital has trained nearly 90 midwives – the entire number working in all hospitals in the entire West Bank.
  • The hospital now offers mammography, laparoscopic surgery, and Echo Doppler diagnosis not found anywhere else in the region.
  • The Sovereign Military Order of Malta, through the hospital, provides steady employment and a fair wage for its 150 employees, many of whom are the sole support of large extended families.
  • The hospital has facilitated Israeli-Palestinian cooperation in the medical field.
  • As a result of the expanded services to meet the evolving health needs of the region, the hospital budget has grown from under $1 million to $3.7 million annually. Patient payments produce income of $2.1 million and the remaining $1.6 million comes from generous donors around the World.
