Five Ways Your School Can Adopt Holy Family Hospital

Short of traveling to the Holy Land to work with the families and caretakers at Holy Family Hospital, there are five great ways you can adopt the Hospital and help bring hope and support to the newborn babies and mothers. These are easy activities to do as classroom or even an entire school, especially during Thanksgiving, Advent or Christmas time.

You can also come up with your own idea. Participating schools will be featured in upcoming newsletters, media coverage and on the website!

5 Ways:

    1) Have your school hold a bake sale! You can host a regular sale where families bring donated bake goods or you can take it a step further and have a themed bake sale. For example, a baby shower theme where cookies, cupcakes and other baked goods could be decorated to reflect a baby shower. All proceeds from the bake sale would be donated to Holy Family Hospital to save babies in the Holy Land!
    2) Hold a T-shirt contest! Buy inexpensive white t-shirts for your classroom or entire school. Choose a day to decorate and have students design t-shirts around themes relating to Thanksgiving, Christmas or Advent. Sell the t-shirts for a profit to students, teachers and parents and donate the proceeds to Holy Family Hospital. After the sale, pick one day during the holiday season for students to wear the t-shirts they purchased to school and call it “Holy Family Hospital of Bethlehem Day”.
    3) Bottles for Babies! Pick a time period in the fall, perhaps the month leading up to Thanksgiving and for 30 days ask families to fill up baby bottles with quarters and spare change. Put baskets in each classroom and have students drop off filled baby bottles in the basket. During that month, teachers can also share important information about life in the Holy Land and the challenges faced by families in bringing new life into the world. At the end of the month, the classroom who has the most baby bottles or raises the most money wins a prize (Like a classroom party or a day out of uniform, etc.)
    4) Host a Baby Shower! Using the resources available at www.BirthplaceofHope.org for hosting a baby shower, have your classroom or each classroom participate in a school-based baby shower. Create a donation sheet for friends and family which list typical baby items found at the store (i.e. pacifiers, bottles, onesies, strollers, pampers, etc.) Put dollar amounts next to each item. Students can take these sheets to family and friends and get donations based on the dollar amount for that item (i.e., $5 for a baby bottle, $10 for a package of diapers, $40 for a stroller, etc). On Baby Shower day at school, students turn in their collected money. Teachers can work with parents to make the food and play some of the games with the students to make it a fun day. Teachers can talk to the students about the work of the hospital and how each donated amount will help the babies and mother.
    5) Put on a Christmas pageant/talent show! Students can display their talent based on Christmas themes by singing, playing instruments, dancing or other entertaining acts. Students can sell tickets with all performances benefiting Holy Family Hospital of Bethlehem.

Don’t forget to take lots of pictures of your activity. Many times, magazines and newspapers like to write stories about how young people are helping the less fortunate around the world. Your pictures will tell a wonderful story and we can display them on our website and other interactive emails we send to our friends and benefactors.

May God bless your activities and we thank you for supporting the families of the Holy Land.
